"Working with Josh to figure out the best plan of action for my private practice business needs was an absolute life saver. He helped me identify items that needed to be corrected (that were set up incorrectly by a previous professional), we talked strategies for marketing upcoming projects and he warmly and confidently answered all the questions that I thought were "silly" and a little worried to ask. Josh provides you with clear and concise steps to take before you even meet which helps you arrive to your first session prepared and streamlines the process. I highly recommend working with Josh Meier for any and all of your small business needs - no matter how big or how small. Oh, and I can't go without mentioning Bonnie - their warm & cheerful client services director who makes every trip to the Meier Law Firm an absolute delight. Not to mention the personalized welcome sign she produces for each client upon arrival - can you say VIP?—Robyn

Personal Note From Josh and Laura

12th Annual Orange County Children's Book Festical

Dear Laura,

We hope you are surviving this October heat wave!  I told my daughter I was going to melt when I was at her soccer game on Saturday and she shook her head and very seriously informed me that "humans don't melt, only popsicles." LOL.

We had the best time at the 12th Annual Orange County Children's Book Festival.  The Orange Coast College Foundation invited me to be their guest and sign copies of Good Parents Worry, Great Parents Plan.  My kids completely took over my booth and were getting everyone to buy the book and join our newsletter. I've never seen such a great sales team in my life!  I was so proud of them and thoroughly enjoyed watching them fight over whose customer was whose first.

Try and stay cool at the practices this week!

All the best,

Weekly Quick-Step For the Prosperous Family

Quick Step: The 'Key Phrase'  that will make your marriage awesome.

What it is: "How Can I Make Your Day Better?"

Why You Need This: Whether your marriage is at a peak or in a valley, it's imperative to connect with your spouse every day and be in tune with meeting their needs as best you can. In the article 'How I Saved My Marriage", New York Times Best Selling Author Paul Evans describes how he and his wife were seriously considering divorce when he broke down one morning and realized that only he could change his own actions, and not his wife's.  He describes how he began to ask her every morning "how can I make your day better" and how that key phrase (coupled with follow through action) completely transformed their marriage into a great one.

Estimated Time: 1 minute each morning.

How to do it:

1. Ask your spouse this key question every morning: "How can I make your day better?"

2. Overcome Resistance. If you face resistance or skepticism, don't over react.  Try again.  Assure your spouse that they and your marriage are important to you, and you want to do your best your relationship the best it can be.

3. Follow through.  Try and honor your spouse's request that day as though it is your number one priority on your to do list.

4. Perseverance. Hopefully your spouse will soon reciprocate. Continue to ask this question daily and follow through even if they do not reciprocate.

Estate Planning For Single People
By Joshua Meier, Esq.

If you are single, it’s critical that you establish an estate plan!

Chances are you hold most of your assets in your own name, and without a joint account owner. This means that without creating your own estate plan, you’ll be leaving it to the courts to sort out everything from where your assets should go, who should make your medical decisions, and who should raise your children if they are under eighteen.

Make sure your estate plan includes these 5 key components:

  1. A Revocable Living Trust. The Revocable Living Trust allows you to direct where you want your assets to go upon your death. Unlike a Will that would be subject to a long, expensive and public court process known as probate, a Revocable Living Trust is a private document that is administered by your attorney upon your passing. It allows you to also place controls on the money you leave behind, such as not allowing your children to control the money until they attain a certain age.
  2. Financial Durable Power of Attorney. The Financial Durable Power of Attorney allows another adult you trust to make all financial decisions on your behalf if you were incapacitated. Without this document, your loved ones who would have to go through a burdensome court process to get the authority to act on your behalf.
